Will .nz be taken away from InternetNZ?
Short answer, on the public record: no formal step toward re-delegation has ever been taken. Criticism of InternetNZ is real, and this scorecard scores it honestly below — but under the 2016 MoU, re-delegation needs two locks to open, and neither has moved.
Why the score is what it is
Two locks. Both must open.
The 2016 MBIE–InternetNZ MoU (clause 33) permits re-delegation only after an open multi-stakeholder conversation finds clear consensus on two things at once. Not criticism, not a bad news cycle, not a heated AGM — consensus, on both.
Clause 34: only when that clear consensus exists may the local internet community — through the Ministry or otherwise — instruct IANA to transfer the designated manager of .nz. Clause 35 then binds InternetNZ to support the transfer. No part of that machinery has been engaged.

The honest version: InternetNZ has had a genuinely turbulent stretch — a systemic racism review, a five-fold protest membership surge, a contested constitution, a critic elected to its board. The scorecard reflects all of it. What the record does not contain is a single step of the formal process this site exists to measure.
